Cheap J deals from Singapore to Europe

I've seen a few excellent business class deals over the past few weeks from Singapore to destinations across Europe. But this is probably one of the best:

AFotD [Business] ETIHAD SIN to VIE from 800€

Today’s AF Etihad and their business class promotional round trip fares between Singapore (SIN) and multiple destinations in Europe.

EY SIN-AUH-VIE is around $1,400 return in J. Books into "Z" class and earns 400 Velocity status credits. Must book by 19 September and commence travel by 15 March 2022 (maximum stay 6 months).

I'm so tempted to book, and to be honest I may even be able to use this fare as I'm planning to travel to Vienna pretty much as soon as possible. But I will resist the urge for now as anything could still happen between now and March 2022 and I'm not really sure how this would work in terms of entering Singapore and also returning back to Australia.

Looks like MUC, FCO and open jaw combos of all three are similar deals (a few $ more these two) but wow - S$1400 to S$1500 ish return.

Not unsurprising. EY not to blame here.

Until there is confidence in caps being lifted I am sure airlines will continue ask premium prices, even for travel in the semi-distant future.

Plenty of carriers in the $5500 range - JL connecting to BA, CX/SQ connecting to LX/LH, etc. SQ/LX F is 'only' $10K.

(I'm not particularly happy with EY ATM as they cancelled several award flights next year, effectively cancelling the whole trip. This is despite empty planes on other available connecting services.)

Similar experience looking J/F seats ex-AU to India & return. Nothing less than $10K ... unless caps are improved/removed, the surge pricing is here to stay.

The J/F fares are now super high because of the caps ... if the caps are improved, the surge pricing will creep into PE & Y as well. More people will be willing to pay the surge pricing when in PE and Y ... imaging paying $3K in Y instead of $10K in J/F and the "desperate-ness" of pax will make them pay the $3K surge pricing in Y ...

ONLY when the caps are removed altogether, surge pricing will stop (or hopefully stop)

Airlines have now tasted the sweet nectar of over-pricing seats quoting incoming pax caps ... and they might not go back to normal pricing for a while...

Some airlines are already at 'regular' pricing though, as per the examples above. Perhaps they are better at reading the potential market and getting free loans from passengers than others?

Thankfully we have airlines like SQ and CX that can ramp up flights, meet demand, and hopefully keep prices in check.

Agree with this point. The airlines have come out more smarter in reading the market potential and the travel hungry population.

I'm not sure if I'm convinced. I can safely say that I have not paid more than $1700 for a QF Y Flex ex-AU to India, like, ever ... I think highest it went was around $2K, but that was just because I was booking tonight for a flight tomorrow afternoon ...

I still think that airlines have not come down on their pricing .. they are still testing out the market in terms of seeing how far will pax go to buy a Y ticket overseas (I say Y because that's what I buy usually) ... ofcourse, there is so many other things that factor here - route, time of the day, duration of layover, return flights etc ...

Fair point. I was referring to business class fares where the likes of BA/JL/CX/LH/LX are pricing in the mid $5000s compared to others who have gone the different route of $8000-$13000.

JL also has some comparable fares with some decent connections through HND (no nasty airport changes or the need for o/n stays).

Just catching up on this thread... yes TK had some excellent fares ex (many parts of) Asia, but a potential problem was that they were non refundable. CX has a good fare from Bali to Europe - still there from late March now - for around AUD3300 that is refundable for a fee of around $300.
