Just noticed a big disparity in the money Qantas asks for to book a reward flight through Nadi vs departing from Nadi. My plan was to break up the long haul from the States with a short stay in Fiji so I booked the two legs separately....I didn't realise the difference in charges would be so much. For two people flying through Fiji from DFW to MEL the total charges are $A182. Booking separately, a reward ticket from DFW to NAN costs only $A87, but NAN to MEL is $A369????
I know that with Qantas rewards flights there are extra charges for many airports - for example, Emirates flights through DXB are super expensive these days - but this is the first time I've encountered such a difference in transiting through an airport vs departing from an airport. I had assumed any departure tax would be the same whether you transited through an airport or got on the plane there. Are these charges normal for NAN and is this disparity in transit vs departure charges also the case at other airports?
