Changing QF domestic award: flights available

Trying to change a three-leg domestic business classic reward to a new date. Current booking is J/J/Y (no J cabin on final flight.) A search for a new ticket shows several options but when I try to change online these are only offered as J/Y/Y. Every flight combination, every day.

I called and the SA agent couldn't even see these options and told me that this is because his screen is up-to-date and I'm seeing old data. Hmm.

So, my question: is there a difference in inventory between new tickets and changes to ticketed flights?

Not sure in response to your question, however aren’t award fares currently offering free cancellation?

Why not just book the new preferred dates and cancel the existing booking fee-free?
