Hi all

I have a points booking which was booked prior to the annual increase in points in March. The credit card that was used has since been upgraded and I now have a new credit card number.

Since the hotel doesn't need to take a deposit, should I be worried about having an old credit card in the booking?

I don't want to try and edit the booking to put in the new credit card in case I get charged more points because of the new rate after the annual increase.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

You'd have to think the chance of them cancelling the booking because of an incorrect credit card, without contacting you first, would be extremely slim.

If it was me - I'd ensure that my SPG profile had the correct credit card then I'd contact the reservations/front office/general manager of the hotel and tell them that the card originally used to guarantee the booking is no longer valid and please use the one in my profile. They'd then contact you if they required any further details.

I've never had an issue with credit card changing. Occasionally I check in with my corporate amex if a payment is pending on my personal amex platinum, and then clear the bill when I checkout with my personal, so yeah, shouldn't have any issues.

I can now tell you all exactly what happens in this situation.

Being the dare devil that I am sometimes, I decided to do a change of the credit card in the online reservation.

It actually came up with a message saying my original booking has been cancelled, but no new booking has been made due to a system error and asked me to contact customer service.

So I spoke to a very nice lady. I explained to her what I tried to do. She looked through the reservation history and worked out what happened, i.e. original booking was booked when the hotel was at a lower category. After she spoke to her supervisor, she came back and said that they've had quite a few cases like this. She then proceeded to make a new booking for me using the lower number of points, but advised me not to use the refunded points in the account as they would need to do a manual adjustment.
