Can you change airlines on a qantas award booking eg book BNE to JFK on CX then if by some miracle QF release a seat on that route a few months later change it to that? Thanks

Yes. I recently changed a CX to QF from HKG. There will be a change 'fee' of c5000 points per pax.

There is a risk that if you have a complex multi-city booking (eg RTW) that someone could snipe one of your legs between the cancellation of your previous (entire) booking and processing the new.

I've also changed airlines (for the token fee), but I'd generally be looking to change from QF to CX rather than vice versa.

Yes, I did it on mine for two of my flights, changed from QF to JAL for SYD-NRT and from BA to IB for JFK-MAD. I was also adding additional flights in the middle of my itinerary so had to make the change anyway

Ben is correct we had QR flights from MAD to SYD via DOH and they were taken back as QF was too slow to reticket however onus is on QF to remediate. It took a few days and some frustrating phone calls but eventually the flights were reinstated

For the HKG route, QF is actually cheaper than CX in terms of fuel fines nowadays.

Thanks all. Its the flight times that are horrendous on CX from Bne if you don't sleep on planes. Fuel fines($360) on this routes CX is about $100 less than QF, very steep for CX

It wasn't intended SJK. The 18 hour schedule change from 1900 to 100 to ADL forced our hand. I've never flown CX and was looking forward to it.
