Currently waiting for a call back from the contact centre and awaiting reply from the sms service but i reckon the members on here are probably more knowledgeable...

I've got HK-MEL reward booking transiting through SYD i.e. different flight #. I want to find out if I can push my domestic SYD-MEL to a few days later and if possible, what kind of fees would apply?

That will depend on the specific fare conditions of your ticket...

IME, the domestic leg of Int to Dom connections are 'free' when the flights are within 24 hours of each other. Otherwise you pay 'full fare' for the domestic flight. This is based on making outright bookings though, changing an existing itinerary would also involve any applicable change fee.

Thanks all, the contact centre quoted me 6700 points plus $77 over the phone change fee, and then suggested I just voluntarily forfeit my SYD - MEL flight and ask to tag my bags to Sydney at HK, collect them at Sydney and book a seperate flight to MEL.

If you decide to forfeit the final leg you don't need to ask for your bags to be tagged to SYD. At SYD you have to collect your bags to go through Customs and then walk to the DOM transfer desk.

Collect your bags, go through Customs and then call/tell a QF staff member that due to a family emergency/sickness etc you have to remain in SYD,

The worst that will happen is that you've lost the final leg. They may even offer to change the flight to another day, although the possibility is slim.

However, do tell them you won't be travelling on the final leg, otherwise they'll be looking for you.

Respectfully disagree.

Suggest you request check-in to SYD only. Previous experience at HKG (and SIN) ground handling agents will oblige. Otherwise the system will show you checked in with baggage for the SYD/MEL flight.

The system will know that the bags have been offloaded in SYD and not re-checked.
