I recently bought a domestic business class ticket on the QF website. I (wrongly) thought one of the benefits of a business class ticket was that you can change to another flight without a fee. When I went to change the return leg, a charge of $20 odd was requested; I thought this was odd but I then found this table:
Bookings - Fare Types
which states that a business class fare / flight could be changed but the fare difference had to be paid...which I presume is the $20 odd requested to change my flight to an earlier one. Not a biggie but when you have already paid $1400 odd for a Syd-Adl return:oops: it seems a bit penny pinching by QF...just my rant for the day.

Yeah, it'll just be the difference.

I've even had it on amounts like this:

The online system always charges it regardless of the amount, but I've never been charged when making the change through the service centre (although maybe that's just coincidence).

That's weird,

Because in my business class booking details, I don't even have an option to "Change"... only select seats? Any reason for this? These were paid flights not Any seat rewards....?

Sounds like your booking hasn't been ticketed yet. Have you just booked/changed it recently? If so, check again once you've received your booking confirmation email (it usually comes within an hour).

I guessed it's been ticketed. I've got the e-ticket email.

Not that I plan to change flights *at this stage* but just found it weird?

I'm not worried for the moment

Was it a multicity, they cannot be changed online.

Are you saying that if I call up QF on the phone, I won't be charged anything?

Bingo! - We've found the problem!

Well, now I know for next time.
So this then raises the question - book individual flight segments (with a $7.70 credit card fee!) or the inconvenience if calling QF to change if needbe.

hmm.

hmm.

Or just book on another site altogether and avoid the $7.70 and inconveniance fine. The credit card fee is easily avoided though

Such as webjet?

but does webjet, for example, allow you to change flights with no penalty?

Where I book, as long as the fare has no penalty , then there is no penalty to pay rather than inventing some penalties such as service fees

To answer my own Q, just rang QF, and flight changed without any fuss or Q re any extra charges. Total duration of call: 1min 45 secs. :p
