I had the occasion of needing to store carry-on baggage at Changi recently.
These are run by Smarte Carte

There were 2 locations at T3
One airside ( officially called transit) - level 2
The other landside (officially called public)- level 1 near the exit to the trains outside of Singapore immigration.

The difference between the two is the airside location does not allow storage of laptops but the landslide ones (near the exit to the trains)
Same price otherwise

Anyone know the reason why laptops and iPads are not allowed in the airside (transit) baggage storage locations ? (At least for T3)

The last time I tried to store bags at SIN, the landside location refused to accept my laptop...

I think it might just be whoever is working at the time. 🤷‍♀️

Did they ask what the contents are?

It was a day stop with baggage checked through. I just had my backpack and laptop bag and I only asked to store one bag.
They didn't ask, anyone with a brain who is paying attention (which is sadly getting rarer) would be able to work out what was in the bag.
They may have run it through an x-ray before refusing.
