I just received a call from my son and his partner. They flew from Perth to Sydney last week and are booked to fly out today from Brisbane to Perth.
My son is at Brisbane hospital at the moment as he was injured, and they will miss their flight. They took out domestic cover (mainly for the car hire).
Just wondering (as TID claims is closed at the moment) whether they need to book with Qantas for a later flight, will they get reimbursed as the flights they paid for were only about $200, and now the cheapest flight today is $840 each. Can someone please advise me on what he should do.
I can get Virgin at about $400 each, but will the insurance pay because you would change airlines.

I would book the flights that suit ASAP, there wont be any issue with changing airlines because one was cheaper. First step would be to call Qantas and explain the situation, Qantas have in the past been known to show the human side when it comes to such incidents. If that does not help then rebook, worry about insurance later as they need to get home regardless.

Thanks for your reply markis, The flight booking was a red-eye deal, so it ended being a no show. Booked Virgin and they are due home this evening.
