Hi everyone,

I have got a ticket scheduled on QF009 next Friday. However, I got some urgent family matters to attend and need to leave a day earlier. Can anyone advice if there is any way I can change without incurring fees?

Is it a full fare ticket or restricted? If should state what you will be liable for on your E-Ticket.

Understand that I have to pay to change the date of return. Is there anyway fees can be avoided? Not prepared to pay just to change a day earlier

Without knowing what Airline you are on, What fare you have paid for etc. It is impossible to say.

All I can suggest is call them and explain your family situation and hope they wave some (all?) fees. But also be prepared to pay them all as you agreed to them in the purchase of your ticket.

Unless you have something such as a death in the family for which the fees may be waived , then if you want to travel earlier then you will have to pay any appropriate change fees

Firstly you need to find out if you can change your flights without changing the fare.

Use www.seatcounter.com to get availability of the fare bucket for your new flight.

Plug your Qantas booking reference into LAN.com print e-ticket. This should show the fare code for each segment under Fare (or Tarifa).

Take the first character of the fare code and compare it with the corresponding seatconter availability number.

If it's a number with a value from 1 to 9 then you may be able to change for only the change fee.

I juest checked and QF009 is wide open to SIN on Thursday, 9's in all the main classes.

FWIW, you can book QF009 for Thursday 27th to SIN, return Saturday night for AUD719.

So you should be able to change for ONLY the change fee.

Are you able to try to change the booking online?

Serfty,

Thanks for the extra info. How do you get all this inside information? Very interesting. Are you from the airline industry? Do shed some light on these insider information. Would be very helpful when making travel bookings. I can't make changes online

In the very very worse case scenario you could always turn up at the airport the day before* and then try to check-in - and you must be a good actor LOL You never never never never know what may or may not eventuate at the check-in desk!!!

*I have not tested this theory/process yet.

 - I somewhat think this will get you no where...

On a more serious note, call the airline and explain your situation. The worst they can do is say "no you'll still need to pay the change fee to change"
