Friend of mine booked qantas international flights for July thru a travel agent. She now realises that it is discount economy rating N. She is concerned with the low level of ff points and sc credits she will receive.
Flights have been confirmed ect, she asks me if she can change her allocated econony rating to a higher to maximise her intitlements .

Yes, but it'll cost your friend. The TA will likely have a change fee included as well.

N, for No!

As mannej suggests, there will be fees involved, which may mean the increased expenses may not be worth any perceived FF benefits.

Considering that the gap between discount economy and economy would likely be between 50-100% more expensive, it's hardly worth paying that much extra for some extra status credits and FF points?

I would just leave things exactly they way they are. Yes, she'll earn ff points and SC based on a discount economy fare instead of a flexible economy but what does
she think she's missing out on with regard to "maximising entitlements."

It's debatable whether the difference in paying a higher economy fare is worth it by way of extra points & SC earn at the time of booking however paying any re-issue fees plus fare difference IMHO would just be money down the drain.

Was she wanting to do a points upgrade?
