I’ve been playing around with various combinations over the past 24 hrs but struggling to find any availability with decent offerings over May/June. The only airlines popping up in the near term are Austrian, Lufthansa and Swiss (very avg business and not worth the aches and pains on the other side). However, come September‘ish, Singapore has availability until end of calendar. Most US cities from coast to coast are priced in the $1700s AUD, and some cities like Austin are priced at $1500 AUD depending on dates.

Fare rules permit stopovers in Europe for an extra $200 or so in either direction depending on hub (FRA, MUC, ZRH, VIE). Adding the stopover restricts some Singapore availability since this is a Lufthansa fare.

This Lufthansa fare books into P class which earns 125% with SQ and 100% with AC. The approximate SQ earn for a RT from DPS to North America is 30-40K RDM which would also see you level up to Kris Silver FWIW. I really need to burn my SQ miles and not earn any more but I’m having trouble passing up this fare.

Note that DPS currently only requires a VoA whereas CGK is more restrictive. Oh and the fare has a maximum stay of 12 months which is rare these days so use that to your benefit for nesting other trips.

EDIT: I‘ve succumbed and booked a trip for next year to Miami. SQ A380 and LH 748 for the long hauls.

This fare was pulled by Lufthansa late last night. From the first post on FT until it was reported as no longer available, the fare was available for about 24 hours. The going fare for the exact same itinerary is now $7-9K AUD, so I think it’s fair to say that this was a mistake rate.

I’m not expecting LH to cancel tix but I wouldn’t put it past them. I’ll wait a couple of weeks before committing any other travel plans around these flights.

Anyone else get onboard?

Yep, got CGK-SIN-MUC-YUL-ZRH-SIN-CGK for July/Aug 2022. Mostly SQ but some Swiss on the return. Starting to look for SYD-CGK return and some good Hotels. Never been to Jakarta before.

@Stacycrow Just make sure you are not staying over at CGK, the traffic to and from the airport is unpredictable to say the least. Allow yourself a minimum 3 hours turnover but do not plan to overnight.

Why do you suggest I do not stay overnight? Looking forward to visiting Jakarta sightseeing for a couple of days prior to my flight.

wondered if you've done this itinerary now and how it went with respect to Jakarta?

Did you end up staying in Jakarta? I haven't been before and felt a bit unsure based on what I could find online re the airport hotels etc in Jakarta. Grateful to hear about your experience.

@cd.et-be what did you want to know about Jakarta and/or hotels near the airport?

If you’re doing a quick overnight or early morning flight, the Ibis Styles near CGK is fine and is about $50 for a room. They run a shuttle to the airport (five minutes), but it’s fairly infrequent so if the schedule doesn’t suit, just jump in a Bluebird taxi and pay $5 (Rp50,000) for the trip when you want.

If you’re planning to spend some time to have a look around Jakarta, say a few days, then you’ll more likely want to be closer to the city centre. Hotels are more expensive and there’s the traffic. You might need to allow an hour to go a couple of Kms if the timing is wrong (Fri afternoon / evening for example). Also realise that Jakarta is a big city and very spread out. Fortunately those same Bluebird taxis are everywhere, are clean, are safe and are cheap.

Even better, take a connecting flight and go to Yogya and spend a few days there rather than Jakarta!

Here's my little review below on FlyerTalk. In a nutshell Jakarta was fantastic.

A big thank you to the OP for this premium fare deal.

Travelled in Business Class P 10 July 2022: CGK/SIN/MUC/YUL returned on 12 August 2022 YUL/ZRH/SIN/CGK.

We had the best time ever in Canada. Also, enjoyed the long layovers in MUC 17 hours & ZRH 16 hours; it was a good break in the flights for sightseeing.

Flew with Singapore Airlines, Finnair, and SWISS. Singapore airlines was the standout with excellent planes, customer service and food, however SWISS was a close second. The Finnair/Eurowings Discover flight we picked in Munich on the way over was ok BUT you must make sure your luggage is checked over from Star Alliance to Oneworld system.

The entire trip went so smoothly, not even any flight changes. Well done, Lufthansa.

Another highlight of the trip was visiting Jakarta. Stayed for 4 days prior to the trip and 3 days after. CGK is a great airport. The VOA went so smoothly just make sure you have the $35 USD OR 500,000 IDR (Indonesian Rupiah) ready and no cross denominations.

Our accommodation at Raffles Jakarta (close to City Centre) & Swissotel PIK (near CGK) were excellent. The people are so friendly and incredibly happy to see visitors coming again.

Again, thank you OP. We cannot tell you enough how much we appreciated the opportunity to travel on this premium fare deal and thank you FlyerTalk for this Bargain.

PS I was quick enough to book another flight with this deal to Miami in February 2023. We are looking at a cruise out of Miami or relaxing in Cancun. Open to any holiday suggestion.

Cheers

Isn't the Indonesian VOA free when staying under 30 days?

CGK-JFK $4030 on Qatar. Not a bad deal, especially if you can get an award flight to CGK from Oz.
