I thoiught that was standard practice on death of a frequent flyer (or stayer), but this 2019 points hacks article indicates there are a number of scenarios. Their summary of selected airline programmes here...

But not for Qantas which is why I've left instructions on this, and a whole lot of other stuff, in a file that the kidlets know to retrieve from a cupboard at home when the need arises.
