CEO retiring, what changes at Qantas would you like to see

I'd like to see Doug Parker off the board (fat chance). The former head of America West, an LCC (+++).

(SMH) "The newest director, Doug Parker (the former head of American Airlines) will be on that ticket, as will Vanessa Hudson."

Sounds like the board is promoting Jetstar on stilts...

Would it be ridiculous to suggest they put someone under the age of 50 on the board?
I understand a lot is to do with experience but the average age of a board member is 61 (assuming VH takes AJ's seat). Surely some fresh minds and ideas in the sphere that truly decides the direction of the company couldn't hurt?

Todd Sampson (born 1970 per wiki) almost meets this bill. And yeah, I was surprised he's on the board - and perhaps more to the point, has been for 8 years (so was def under 50 when he joined).

Also on the remuneration committee of the board, which sets CEO pay.
 
I paid $12.5k for J return SYD LHR. Came home Sat morning on QF2. LHR lounge was a disgrace - packed, long lines to get into the toilets, little to no food, stingy with the drinks, people standing. The flight was understaffed in J and they were obviously sick on duty, coughing and spluttering. The food was served luke-warm and A-D rows didn't get any drinks SIN-SYD. The movie list looked like they just recorded 7-Mate for the weekend. I got Covid and have now given it to my wife.

I used to look forward to international travel but now dread it. Anything they can do would be an improvement.

The new CEO has such an easy job. Every single thing they do will improve the company. They are literally taking over the bottom team so it can only go one way. It would be really difficult to stuff it up from here.

I'd not be willing to give up my seat - regardless if it was paid in cash or was a reward seat.

The loyalty programme is useless, and in fact counterproductive encouraging disloyalty, if there are no reward seats available. A few reward seats should be available on every flight, in every class, from when the flights are posted available for booking. The loss in seat revenue would be more than compensated for by the increased loyalty.
 
#12a Upgrade requests published on a upgrade list. The upgrade list is autogenerated as the flights is sold. The relative position on the list depends on time of booking, fare paid, status etc. The passenger's relative position on the upgrade list is visible to that passenger as well as the total number on the list.
Upgrades are processed once boarding commences and only at the gate. If not at the gate to receive the new boarding pass it is immediately given to the next person

#12b Similarly there is a standby list. It is not possible to buy multiple full fare tickets for same day departure. After the first full fare confirmed booking, subsequent purchases can only be onto the standby list. Standby processing also commences when boarding commences - also at the gate. If not at the gate to receive the boarding pass, it will be given to the next passenger on the list. Passengers can be added to the list at anytime up until the flight is closed.

#12c Upgrades cannot trump standby as standby are a seat purchase. Upgrades already have a seat.

#12d Upgrades and Standby success cannot be reversed. Airlines may want to hold one or two seats in reserve until the last moment in case pilots or crew have an last minute requirement.

This solves:
Lounge congestion - get people to gates when boarding commences
Assists with the oversold conundrum
Increases visibility of upgrade or standby potential to passengers. Passengers can see their upgrade potential and see where they sit relative to other passengers - they can opt to chase status to increase their potential. Road warrior types can see what their chances are on particular flights WRT standby

Qantas needs to be less beholden to certain groups of passengers and really be an airline to all passengers.
 
I'd like to see Qantas formally dissolved. From its ashes some form of airline will rise phoenix-like to serve the people of Australia.
