CBA is ceasing to let you earn Awards Points on balance transfers after 7 December 2004  (which I know will disappoint at least you Gordon!).

Could someone give me the reference for this date of 7th. December, as the 'end of points' for balance transfers?

I looked, but couldn't find it on the CBA website.

Can't blo*dy win!!! First Qantas... now this!!!

What's next to be taken away from us???

(becoming MORE depressed!)

Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, the Frequent Flyer Concierge team at Frequent Flyer Concierge will help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

CBA are doing this "on the quiet", IMHO.

They have deleted all reference to points being awarded for balance transfers from their website.

The only positive notification of this that I can find is a small paragraph on the back of my October credit card statement which states "FROM 7 DECEMBER 2004, NO COMMONWEALTH AWARDS POINTS WILL BE EARNED ON CREDIT CARD BALANCE TRANSFERS FROM OTHER AUSTRALIAN BANK CREDIT CARDS TO COMMONWEALTH AWARDS CREDIT CARDS."

It's easy to miss.

Interestingly, CBA has not repeated the paragraph on my November statement.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

I also moved from CBA standard to WW card with the recent change to CBA points policy.

When I applied I did ask specifically if they were changing their policy also. After all it is actually a CBA card anyway.

I was assured that there were absolutely no plans in the future to change the scheme - a likely story but the card is cheap so no complaints yet.

And the bonus points are making a difference.

CBA have only recently struck up their VISA PLATINUM card.... previously, they only had MASTERCARD PLATINUM..... but I think the MC PLATINUM offers are better than VISA'S (in general).

There is one major difference between MC and Visa with the CBA........ especially those who use their cards outside Australia and the US.

With Mastercard, any OS transactions are converted to US Dollars and then to AUD.

With Visa, OS transactions are converted directly to AUD.

Thanks for that tip....

I'm going to see a Branch consultant on Monday morning, and hand deliver my 'last' balance transfer application.

I'll ask for a signed receipt, just in case they pull the old 'it wasn't received' line, and then claim the 7th. December deadline has passed.

regards,

Good luck. Just faxed my last application to CBA too.

Let us all know if you find any other balance transfer for points deals out there. I think CBA was the last bank to offer that handy deal - and now that's (almost) gone.
