Yes I hear.
I have a card too. It's not fee free but it has been for recent years.

Esseinatly you get 1.2 or 1.4 can't remember exactly qff or velocity points per dollar spent on super market spend . You'd get 2 to 3 on the amex cards. So I'm not sure why anyone would use the cba card except for is purchases

No you don't. You get 3 rewards points per $ for supermarket spend which works out at 1.5 Velocity pts per $. Same for petrol. So that's about as good as anything at present.

I'm talking about 3ppd on plat edge
And 2 ppd on explorer

Are people going to retain the diamond for the 1.2pp$ supermarket spend? Worthwhile?

Yep, I even use it for my business when spending overseas and do a reimbursement - as 3% can be a big chunk when spending $1000's. My Amex Qantas Ultimate card can stay in my wallet ;)

That and the diamond rewards cards are essentially free as part of our homeloan. No reason to pay to use another card...

Another exchange rate data point.

Just back from Bangkok where we used this card (amex) exclusively. The exchange rate used for baht is smack on the EX rate and we saved around $500 in foreign exchange fees whilst earning 1.2p/$ :D

Sensational card!

I agree with SOPOOR on this one, 3ppd on Platinum Edge is much better than 1.5 ppd and its fairly easy to get this 3ppd on more than just supermarket spend by purchasing giftcards (and get a 5% discount).

Been in Bangkok for last few weeks.
Rates on CBA diamond Amex have been great as well.

On a couple of days I used the CBA Amex card, 28 degrees master card and withdrew funds from Citi ATM using Citibank plus master card so I could compare exchange rates.

will analyse next week when I am home and post if there are any meaningful variations.

just spent a week and half in Sweden. CBA Amex rates beat Bankwest Mastercard / Citibank Plus Visa for me - at least once I got a better rate than on xe.com

They also had an offer a year or two ago of 80,000 CBA Awards points on the Diamond and Platinum cards, equal to 40,000 Velocity points or 32,000 Qantas points. Nothing remarkable but better than zero if you are signing up (not that there's an offer right now, of course).

I've seen CBA reps in the Qantas Sydney lounge flogging their credit cards too, but haven't seen that for a while.

Just back from overseas and yes the CBA Diamond Amex did come in quite handy with very competitive rates that what is advertised on published websites (plus the guaranteed 3 points). That said, as with in Australia, Amex is not accepted everywhere O/S - I have a Bankwest Mastercard which is also fee free from O/S transactions and good rates (but earns no points). I left the CBA Diamond Mastercard at home. There was of course (as in Aus where neither is accepted of course....)

Anyhow, happened to do a couple of unplanned experiments where I used the two cards 20 minutes apart. On both occasions the Bankwest Mastercard was given the better rate, but where talking relatively small percentages.

Just ticked up some US$ purchases .... exchange rate used "pending" = $0.8084 :) That's better than what the Xe app is showing

Sometimes on Bankwest which is a CBA business name they have two goes at the exchange rate.

IMG_8392.JPG IMG_8393.JPG IMG_8394.JPG I took a read through the thread as CBA PUSHED out a platinum card upgrade at no extra cost to me but I do know on the interchange rates, they slap more cash from the merchant Interchange Fees & Rates | Mastercard

From what I gather it's only AMEX in the package for zero international fee?

Just back from over the ditch. Used only two cards, CBA Diamond and Qantas Money card. Neither charged a fee which was great but CBA about 3% better on the rate at all times

Only trouble being that very few places took AMEX around the south island. Still I suppose the same applied here 20 years ago!!!

What is the limit on your Gold card, is it met the minimum limit to qualify for a platinum card?

Doesn't matter - they're getting rid of the gold card. It's in their interest to move people across then, rather than having people remain on an obsolete product.

Really I have been waiting for a while and they have not sent me the invitation to apply for the platinum card, that’s why I asked you.

It was good whilst it lasted.
