Hi

I am flying as part of my LONE4 bought through AA - from HKG to BOM on 31 Dec with CX.

My paper ticket says HKG - BOM. However the flight goes via BKK that is the flight goes HKG - BKK - BOM.

I called CX Australia office and asked if I could pick up the flight in BKK instead of HKG as it makes it easier for me. I am not too sure of my chances of getting it.

What do people think of my chances of getting the change done with out paying any extra ?

Problem I have is the response time from CX staff in Aust.

First I faxed them my ticket last Tuesday but they lost the fax, so I faxed it again two days later on the Thursday last week.

I have been calling every day to get a decsion but keep getting told the same thing, that there are other more urgent customers ahead of my issue and I will be contacted shortly but they wont say when, it could be next week, as they noted I only fly on the 31st Dec and thats more than 2 weeks away.

Also other issue I have is, I get to SIN on 27th of Dec and then need to make my way to BKK or HKG depending where they let me board my flight to BOM but in the mean time seats from SIN to BKK or HKG are either selling out or being jacked up in price.

So I am thinking I should just leave it be take the flight out of HKG. Cheapest way to get to HKG from SIN I think is one of 2 ways:

1. Tiger Airways- SIN - Macau (then jet ferry to HKG airport) = $150 all up

2. Jetstar aisa Sin - HKG = $250

Or maybe go to KL and see if can get cheaper flight to Macau via Airasia.

I doubt you can do what you want to do as that is a re-routing of your LONE4 and requires re-ticketing, with a fee plus re-calculation of taxes.

yeah I thought that might be the case, I guess it all comes down to that paper ticket showing HKG - BOM and not what it really is which is HKG - BKK - BOM.

Would have been good if I could get that flight in BKK.

now I just need CX to confirm that but they just wont give me an answer either way.

Just as a side note, my sabre electronic bookings shows that I fly 2 sepearete segements HKG - BKK and then BKK - BOM, after seeing that I thought maybe they might allow me to pick up the flight in BKK.

If the ticket says HKG-BOM and you want to fly BKK-BOM, then you will need to have the ticket re-issued to reflect that new routing. The fact that it is the same flight, same flight number, same date etc does not change the fact that it will need to be re-issued since the routing is changed.

Have you started your journey yet? I dont think there is a fee for reissuing if you havent started yet.

That depends on where it was bought and when, but won't escape any changes in taxes or fuel fines (on any flight segment not just this one). It also presupposes there is still L availability BKK-BOM, cancelling an L seat on HKG-BOM will not necessarily provide any L seat on the flight (let alone only half the flight).

Note if the LONEx was purchased in HKG then cannot change that first segment at all - you'd need to cancel the whole thing and start again.

If it was me I'd be planning on getting to HKG.

The Tiger Airways option from SIN looks the cheapest option.

An AirAsia flight KUL-MFM on 30 December is ~A$120 and then there is the cost of getting from SIN-KUL and the jet ferry to HKG airport.

Thanks for the replies,

Yesterday after reading your post at work I went to buy the Tiger ticket but I had left my credit card at home, doh!

So I decided to give Cathy one last call. This time I was told the ticketing people would get back to me within the hour with a decision. .....5 hours later still no call.

So I called them up and said it’s been more than a week, I need an answer right away because this is getting frustrating and I need to buy an onward ticket today.

This time they kept me on hold and went to calculate the ticket, after 10 mins on hold listing to that irritating Cathy Pacific hold music they got back to me with some good news, they said it was fine I can pick up the flight in BKK and they wont charge me anything extra and don’t even have to re-issue me with a new ticket, they will simply put a note into my booking for me to be board the flight at BKK.

So I was pretty happy with that decision, went and bought my SIN - BKK ticket via air Asia for $90.

For a while there Cathay was on my "cough airlines" list after this delayed decision episode, getting wrong information from there china office and after them losing my bags on my PEK - HKG flight but now they have elevated to my "not so cough airlines" list :)

Wow. I am suprised that they let you do that. Still, congrats on getting things sorted your way! :)

Congrats. I hope you got something in writing from CX confirming their decision (otherwise you are IMHO running a big risk of a mess at check in at BKK).

I'd be trying to find someone that could look in the booking to see if the note was actually there.

Well I asked them to email me the itinerary which they did, so the email from them shows that the flight and seat reservation and the customer service officer name.

I even spoke to 2 separate CX phone cust service officers about it.

You reckon I should try and get more in writing ?
