Hi guys,

I need to buy a flight from HKG to BKK for September next year (to link up with some FF flights I have booked). The 3 options I am looking at are:

Emirates Business - $630 (on a B777-300ER)
Cathay Business - $730 (on an A330)
(Both these leave around 10pm and I'd have a 4 hour delay at HKG)

Cathay First - $850 (on a B747)
(This flight leaves around 9am the next day)

The difference in price isn't really an issue. And I don't mind staying overnight in HKG - it'd give me a chance to go back to a great little private kitchen I found last year.

I will have just reached PS with OW by the time of this flight. So I suppose it comes down to which is the better lounge in Business, and whether there are any extra benefits for a morning Cathay First flight. The flight only takes 2:40.

All advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Go for CX in F and enjoy The Wing or The Pier before the flight. Good SC earning too.

Given those options and prices I would think CX First in a no-brainer.:D

Given that CX F involves an overnight and it is only a 2:40 journey, I would discount that. Given that it seems to be a regional buisness class service on CX, I think that i'd give EK a go. EK have been a decent airline when I have used them, plus they are the cheapest

He has to spend the night somewhere, so if it makes no diff to him if its in HKG or in BKK then the overnight stay is not relevant.

If connecting in from elsewhere, I would take the EK flight n get to destination rather than having to leave and restart the next day

I don't see that F is worth spending extra for for such a short flight

I used EK for the BKK-HKG leg in April 2006 and it is very ordinary and probably comparable to a regional product. Very similar to CX as I used CX for the HKG-BKK return leg at the same time.

Actually the AY tag flights BKK-HKG-BKK were much better than both EK and CX on this route but they are no longer operating these flights.

For 2:40 it is not worth the extra. Also hotels in BKK are much cheaper than HKG, as are bars and restaurants. I lived in HK for years and I have been in BKK many times as well so love both places. Weather is better in HK at this time of year though.
