Media release from Cathay

Cathay Pacific Airways today released details of its new Premium Economy Class. The product, which will be progressively introduced on its long-haul flights from March 2012, will soon be available for passenger booking for flights departing from April 2012 onwards. At the same time, the airline announced that it will progressively introduce a new Economy Class seat on the majority of its long-haul aircraft, also beginning from March.

Cathay Pacific Chief Executive John Slosar said: “We are really excited about these latest innovations. As always, the comfort of our customers was front and centre of our design process and we believe the results represent a very significant upgrade in the product we offer.

“Premium Economy will be a real upgrade over Economy, and passengers will get great value for a great product. The seat will have a generous recline and plenty of legroom, and passengers will also enjoy improved service and many other extras.

I'm loving the rise of premium economy for longhaul. It more affordable than J and doesnt leave one with sardine class as the only viable option. Its what economy used to be, by no means luxurious, but comfortable enough that you didnt want to kill your seat-mate after 4hrs. Budget flying just isnt civilised. ;)

Shame they haven't released pictures of the new products with this announcement.

Any announcement when in March they start flying ex SYD. Flying to US and QF has a PE sale on now wondering id worth waiting for an introductory Cathay sale? QF fares a pretty good tho, but keen to try Cathay and wouldnt mind a stopover in HKG on way back

Unfortunately the growth of the product seems to have also coincided with a jump in the price compared to Y and less genuine sale prices for Y+

Well actually I always expected it to be quite a bit more expensive than Y. It doesnt bother me if its not on sale, it only bothers me if its not available at all....

$1600 to NYC in Y and $3300 in PE with QF at the moment, I think that's a fair price for Y+ More than that (up to $4500+ at other times) I think it is too much.

Re: Cathay Pacific releases details of new Premium Economy Class, announces new long-

Not too keen on premium economy especially the way it is priced these days.

I know many will disagree but there is no way premium economy deserves a 100% premium over economy. Not for those seats or service. I struggle to see value in a 50% premium for business class over economy.

Look at the T class fares ex SIN/HKG to Europe then get your TA to add on the T class fares LHR/Europe to the USA

Actually a much better deal FF program-wise if crediting to AA.

Official details now live at CX dotcom:

Cathay Pacific -

Re: Cathay Pacific releases details of new Premium Economy Class, announces new long-

That is hugely expensive! Much more than QF even.

Re: Cathay Pacific releases details of new Premium Economy Class, announces new long-

The premium economy seats to Europe always are/were a better bargain if originating in SIN or (preferably) HKG. And of course, you needed to find T class availability on BA for the best price. Even so, long advance purchase would be a given. From SIN about 6 weeks out, there are no bargains at the moment in the W cabin.

The best deal would seem to be find a BA flight with open seats in W and buy an on departure upgrade. Hint, that is not easy anywhere on the Oz-xx_-LHR routes.

Happy wandering

Hmm, l'm with TTR on this one. Doesn't look very comfortable.

Re: Cathay Pacific releases details of new Premium Economy Class, announces new long-

Yep, add me to the "it doesnt look that great" list.

The foot rest on the non-bulkhead row looks pretty tacky too.

At the price they are charging, I cant see me switching from QF Y+ (given essentially equivalent pricing).
