We have flown business for the last five year international. But after the Garuda Indonesia stuff up, we thought that we would give CX PE a try. We may live to regret it, but we can only try it. After all our daughters paid for it, so we could hard say no.

Don't forget to report back. I have PE on QF 127/128 shortly, 747 up and 380 back and will also report back.

That sounds cheery! I'm flying soon to the UK from Sydney with Cathay PE on the 333 and 77W plane combo. The return trip was 3600 - now down to around 3000 I see but way less pricey than Qantas. Have booked aisle seats for a change to save being trapped at the window by a bulky sleeping stranger seated in aisle ;-( This is my first time flying Cathay. Have flown QF PE often, always superb (and the seats are incomparable), BA PE once (awful & never to be repeated) and Virgin Atlantic PE (ordinary). So having read and been alarmed by some scathing reports across the net re Cathay PE I'm seeking up to date comment on the seats and overall comfort on Cathay. Looks like there've been fit-out upgrades on some planes in the past year?
Having flown both I'll concur that while both aren't too dissimilar I also found the QF seats to be more comfortable and the food and drink to also be better on QF; more similar to J offerings than CX.
That said, Y+ all the way to CDG would be better than EK Y for the last leg, which is pretty uncomfortable.
Also, as CX in general has a large proportion of the plane dedicated to J you've got better odds for a Y+ to J op-up, as has happened to me in the past.
