Cathay have cancelled one of their two daily Frankfurt flight - and we were booked on it!

After Cathay cancelled my flight and moved me to the next day, 9 hour HK transit becomes 24 hours and 10 MINUTES (yes ten minutes) stop-over. AA wants additional 30K points for that 10 minutes and they wouldn't budge (maybe they can't as Cathay is controlling the flights).

Anyway, they agreed to cancel my reservation without any penalty. In the meantime, I reserved HND-SIN-KUL-PER flight, with SIN-KUL in Economy (1 hour), the rest in Business; extra stop, not ideal but some benefits: HND instead of NRT, overnight flight in place of early morning flight, ie saving an accommodation in Tokyo, but we were looking forward to The Wing in HK.

Just got confirmation from AA, everything is OK, fingers crossed.
That is just crazy.
Surely the ticketing rules only have to apply at point of ticketing? Or re-ticketing for passenger voluntary changes.

Cathay cancelled our SYD-HKG flight booked with QF points and moved us to the day before.

It took a bit of wrangling but we managed to get QF to change us to the CX BNE-HKG flight the same day as our original flight which suits us better as we only booked through SYD because of availability. A win all round as it saves an overnight in SYD and gives us most of a day to explore HKG before our connection to Europe.

That’s a good outcome! Was there award availability for the BNE-HKG, or did CX/QF open some up just for you?

Qantas can’t open up CX award flights but I expect they send a very strongly worded request to CX to do so.

Well, CX were pretty efficient with their refund process after I cancelled our flights. The money, full payment amount, was back into our CC account about 11 days after I asked for the refund. They said it would take 1 to 2 weeks so I am happy with that.

No availability. I’m not sure of the exact process but they mentioned something about sending a request to the “OneWorld team” which I assume then goes to CX. They came back with 24 hours.

This was 4 J seats so we weren’t hopeful to be honest.

As I said I expect it was a ‘strongly worded request’ to release seats given what CX are doing on quite a wide scale it seems! Heaven help those who just accept the cough transit times that CX considers acceptable.

I'm not sure they do consider this acceptable. But what other choice do they have? CX has cancelled some flights due to lack of demand - understandable in the current environment. They have reacommodated pax on another service that's still operating.

Looks like they have drastically reduced services between Hong Kong and New York. From what I read this morning most of the changes come into effect in October.

I have 2 award J bookings JFK to HKG in November. If our service is one of those that are removed will Cathay or Qantas inform me, will Iose the booking or will I just notice a change in flight time and aircraft because they will change my booking to another flight.

Keep an eye on routesonline ( Airlineroute :: Routesonline) or some of the blogs like onemileatatime to check when the schedule changes come in and the affected flights. While QF may eventually inform you, the earlier you can get in the more options that will be available to you. A matter of hours (sometimes minutes in the case of my BA cancellation) can make the difference between having multiple options, or none.

Looks like those in F will be affected the most as only 6 seats a day in F rather than the 18 currently. Wonder if they will move those 777’s to other routes

Can you check your specific flight by doing a dummy booking on Cathay Pacific’s website? My understanding is the schedule changes have been loaded in the booking system now so maybe you will be able to tell if the flight is still going to be operating that way?

If you’re going to be moved, I think the system will automatically change your itinerary to another flight, which will probably show up on your manage my booking first, with Qantas contacting you at some time afterwards to let you know of a schedule change. If you suspect you will be affected, I would be regularly checking your booking and calling in as soon as you notice a change there.

I booked my Cathay flights with AA, when one was cancelled and moved, Cathay informed AA but not me. I could see the flights in Cathay website (as I was reserving my seats), luckily I noticed the flight change. Online chat with Cathay and told this has been passed on to AA.

Logged into AA couldn't get to my itinerary, only message to contact AA so I did. If I didn't contact them, not sure if AA will contact me and when.

My flight CX831 still showing in my Qantas bookings. Shown as a 777 but this will probably be replaced with an A-350.

Long way off so I will just keep an eye on the booking at present.
