No doubt there are wise words already on the AFF site about this : why do CX fares on their website bear no relation to the real world (eg. Aust/UK rtn at $21k for J) and why also can I not see CX fares on comparison sites ? Given this (and appreciating CX as I do) how does one get to their real deals ?

What currency are the fares being displayed in?

Doh.. thought it was their .au site (as saved/used before) but it was actually HQ in HK wch explains it.. Thanks.. Now to part 2 of my question : why do CX flights never appear in comparison flight searches ?

They appear on Kayak. I don't know about the others.

second time we've had someone today look at fares in HKD and complain about them being too high!

Have a look at fares ex TPE on CX to the UK or USA in J.

You'd still need to get to TPE though.....which could be done as a stopover on an Aust/GUM/Aust ticket through US DM if you're keen to save some coin for a roundabout way of getting there.

Full published CX J fare to LHR is AUD$21,000. That's real 'J'. It will show up occasionally on far out dates or as an option. HKD$21,000 is about AUD$3,000 unless exchange rates have changed dramatically! That won't get you a business class ticket from Australia to UK return on CX! (Or any airline for that matter)
