Case Study: How Matt Retained Qantas Platinum in 2025

Thanks , Do you think QFF took into account when you go the soft drop the likelihood you would make it back to Plat status in the next year - ? because of already booked flights .
Or is it pretty standard to go back to Gold?

It's standard, I believe. I didn't have much of my new travel booked when I dropped.
Yes - it's just their standard. QFF soft-lands you through the status levels, regardless of what you have flown in the period. If a P1 stopped flying before retaining and never made another SC, they would drop to WP for a year, then SG for a year, then PS for a year, before settling at NB.

Indeed - they hope you'll "snap out of it"!

I've put together this case study which breaks down the 1,200 (well, slightly more) status credits I earned during my current Qantas Frequent Flyer membership year to retain Platinum status. You can have a read here:

Of course, this is just one of many, many ways you could do it!

Do you think it's worth going for Qantas Platinum status? And if you have it, what kind of flying did you do to get it?
I think it is well thought out and travel where you need to for reasonable prices.
I'm close to LT GOLD and now retired and can travel wherever and medic a fly need at least a J seat on long hauls.
I will do a F. Oneworld RTW with 8 F sector's and 8 J and easily obtain Platinum based solely on revenue . Then 3 Js RTW p.a to keep status for a while. I find a few longhauls in J now up to 12k AUD so RTWS the way to go.
