Sorry for such a basic question.
I understand that for domestic flights, there are no problems carrying safety disposable razors onboard.

Is it the same for international flights?

No problem at all. On many flights in business or first they have them available in the bathroom. I always grab some extras, you never know when you'll need them. SQ also have neat little tubes of shaving cream.

When at the supermarket next, have a look at shaving oil, as a small bottle about the size of box of matches, will last you more than 100 shaves. I tried it (and I think it was after reading one of the posts in this forum) and have been using it since.

I can recommend King of Shaves as a shaving oil. It's in my travel pack and works well overseas. Just remember to cap the bottle tightly!

As for those nasty airline/airline lounge supplied razors, they are scary and should be avoided at all costs. After using one (with the soap/moisturiser type shaving cream they provided) in a lounge overseas, I looked like an extra from a horror movie. The manager of the lounge actually visited me while I was trying to stop the blood loss and apologised profusely! :)

Count me as another shaving oil convert. The King of Shaves stuff is great. Certainly a good travel tip that I picked up from the Great Hand Luggage Only Challenge thread.

Call me old fashioned, but I use a shaving brush and a stick of shaving soap - no worries here with liquids, because there aren't any. I've been shaving like that since I was about 20 (converted from aerosols)... and that's longer than I care to remember. ;)

My 2c worth...

A bottle of KoS or the Dermalogica I use is about 1/3 the size of a shaving brush - critical if travelling hand luggage only ;)

Out of interest - does teh shaving stick goes with the gels/liquids in the clear bag?

No - since the soap is a solid and not a gel and it still fits just fine in my hand luggage only plans ;)

Its much easier to just use a rechargeable electric shaver ;) .

Can't say I have ever found an electric shaver I was happy with. But for travelling is better than using an airline or hotel supplied razor

I have enough trouble getting a decent shave with a regular razor - not quite 5 o'clock shadow at 9AM but I shave at 5:30AM and at 9AM it's starting to get rough - a electric razor brings that forward to 6AM...

And the problem is ????

If my shave is not perfect or as close as possible, I really don't care. When I am travelling, people have to accept me as I am. I have never been ejected from a meeting because I have a little stubble.

I am very happy with the convenience of my Philishave rather than the hassle of playing around with blades and cream/foam/oil. I think I have probably shaved with a blade less than 10 times in the last 15 years.

And my 3yo like feeling the "sprinkles" on my face when I have not freshly shaved.

I too have never tried an electric shaver I have been happy with - I get a much closer shave with a blade.

On a number of times while I was in the military (much earlier in my life), I was told off by a number of NCOs at lunchtime for not being clean shaven despite having a shaved that morning. After returning to my barracks, and re-shaving, I looked like an extra from a horror movie all afternoon (not having a shower before shaving means lots of cuts and rashes). One Warrant Officer who saw me after lunch on one of those days told me to give up on the lunchtime shaves - it was better to cop the occasional telling off rather than look like I did.

I do not doubt that a blade gives a closer shave. I just don't see the need for the closeness and put more weight on the convenience factor.

Maybe I am just a slob  .

My boss has never once complained about my appearance. I figure that I am present in a meeting because someone wants me there, so they can accept me as I am. However, I do normally wear shoes to business meetings :p . But my normal work attire is quite informal. Maybe I should be wearing shoes now? Oh, and I might even spend 2 mins and shave before I head out later.

Hmm, shoes and shave in the same morning - what is the world coming to?

It's not that - it is more about comfort and to a lesser extent focus. I am a creature of habit (aka obsessive compulsive) and part of my ritual for preparing for the day does not involve 15 minutes of yoga and bircher muesli but ensuring everything is neat and in it's place.

I have been considering an electric again but a $400 investment is a bit steep... perhaps in advance of the Big Personal Trip...

You must be a first-born ;)

Put on the accountant's hat. I have saved way more than $400 over 15 years of not buying razors, cream/foam/oil etc. But I rarely eat bircher muesli either.

And I had quite the opposite experience. I got some safety razors and soap in the lounge at LHR and I struggled to have a decent shave for a week.

I have been using a shaving brush with lathering cream and real razor blades since I started shaving. I prefer to use Faulding Shave lathering cream but Mennen is OK as well although a little too dry.
