Well my trusty QANTAS carry on bag finally coughped itself and I am looking for a replacement.
I looked at the current QANTAS offering an appear to be way of the mark price wise as wells as not my preferred setup.

the current one I have is a two wheeler with extending handle and a could of useful zipped pockets on the outside which I find really handy for quick access to passports, phones, wallet etc.

So that is the basic criteria, I like the QANTAS one I had because it was the the maximum size allowable and I never had any issue fitting in an overhead locker.

I suppose I like the soft case version as these are more likely to support zipped pockets.....appreciate any suggestions from recent buyers of carry on bags that you recommended and that may fit what I am chasing.

Live in Adelaide but more than happy to buy on line....I checked the AFF store but don't seem to sell carry on bags.

Appreciate any suggestions.

I love my Red Oxx bags. They are all soft sided (i.e. no wheels) so if you really want wheels look elsewhere. For soft sided luggage they are incredibly well built, over engineered some may say. On top of that their customer service is excellent.

Just be careful in size selection some bags are larger than carry on. A lot of their bags come in at 115cm which means that you can only have one bag for carry on in domestic. This is not a problem for me as I can do most of my trips at under 7kg so one bag travel is perfect for me.

I have the Sky Train, others prefer the Air Boss. For me the shoulder straps replace any need for wheels, but then I am never having to check luggage as I can travel most anywhere and still be under 7kg. Naturally YMMV.

like you I like to have a couple of pockets - especially a smaller one at the top of the bag on the outside for passports and tickets etc.

I use samsonite - two wheels.

Peters of kensington (can google) is a good place to start when comparing prices.

I've just bought an Antler 56cm Cyberlite softside from Luggage Direct. Haven't travelled with it yet but expect it will be more convenient and easier to use than my 2 wheel Strandbags backpack or SWMBO's 55cm Cosmolite I had been borrowing for some trips.

How about the Osprey Porter 46 Travel Pack.
relatively easily available in Australia.

I've found good wheeled bags (Samsonite, American Tourister, Antler) at Trade Secret of all places.

I've only ever used a backpack. A BLK one (they are a rugby apparel company)

heaps of room and pockets.

Easy enough to slide in the seat in front of you.
