Hi there,
I am flying to Rome in a few weeks on an award flight. The route is SYD-SIN-HEL-FCO
The first leg is QF in economy, the other legs are Finnair in J. Its all on one ticket.
The booking tells me I can check in 3 bags but doesn't specify the carryon allowance. I am actually trying to fly carryon only, given the chaos of airports at the moment.
Can anyone tell me what the carryon allowance is on the QF leg? Is it the economy allowance of 7kg or business allowance of 10kg.
I think I can fit my stuff in the bag - weight is the issue. I am at about 8kg without toiletries and last minute bits and bobs.

Officially it's 7Kg for Y, and there's nothing in the rules that allow for connecting to a second international flight in J (it does say when flying D->I use the I allowance, which is actually less than D in Y).

Having said that, I've never seen QFi weigh bags. I wouldn't even give it a second thought.

Its officially 7kg, but I have never had an issue flying slightly heavy. That is until this last week flying out of MUC where 8.1kg was too heavy for them and they forced me to check the bag... which got lost.

I think worst case they'll gate check it if it's too heavy, so I wouldn't hesitate to go over 7kg.

Obviously not Qantas

I’ve done 18kg🤣.

Once for me LAX-SYD on the QF104 (747)
They weighed everyones carry on at the gate which was unusual. I don’t remember what happened if overweight. Has not happened before or since including the 18kg

I saw the scales on my last LA. In fact, of all the ports I go too, I see them out in LA the most.

Nope. QF codeshare on EK metal.

That said, the Austrian staff are sticklers.

Just wanted to clarify for the benefit of others, since the thread is about QF carry on, in case they thought it was a QF flight, which it wasn't.

True, although QF codeshare, which normally gives you some leniency as status. Not that the MUC staff cared a whit.

I've never known codeshares to make any difference with carry on, always the operating carriers rule in my experience. Eg AA, which has no weight limit, fly on QF metal as AA - QF isn't not going to care at all about the AA allowances.
