Hi

I will be in YVR on Jun 12-22 and would like to hire a car from the airport & return it there
As I will be alone with limited $, I will be getting a cheap small car

Does anyone have any suggestion to whom I should use?

I have looked at Thrifty and their quotes is just under CAD300 which I think is quite good - but am not sure if there are extras like insurance, first time hirer and would it cost more as I would like to go to SEA for a few days - have asked them but their answer is a bit crytic

I am over 30 with OZ & NZ license

Cheers

I think the majority of these relate to renting in the USA and I believe renting in Canada is more expensive, but they should give you some ideas. I have used www.driveaway.com.au a few times when renting out of Seatle, but others have suggested ther sites such as www.netflights.com. These companies included insurance.

Definitely go for an "all inclusive" rate... the CDW/LDW on a 10 day rental would be $$$$! Thrifty in Canada seems to charge $26.99 per day!!

ONE option is holidaycars.com which is IIRC a european based consolidator...

Their website quotes AUD$450 for an Economy car for that period.. "Chevrolet Aveo" is the example given...and that includes CDW etc

There are a number of these companies... I have used several without any problems...

Hi FrankC,

I lived in Vancouver for several years. I'm afraid I can give you no advice what-so-ever about hiring the car, but I can offer you a couple of bits of advice on your proposed Vancouver-Seattle run.
First of all, be aware that there are often very long delays (couple of hours) at the "Peace Arch" border crossing on the main highway.
A very attractive alternative from a tourist perspective is to go via Victoria BC. Take the car ferry from Horseshoe Bay (on the road between Vancouver and Whistler) to Nanaimo on Vancouver Island. Victoria is sensational. Plan on a full day there, especially Butchart Gardens. Then take the Coho ferry across to Port Angeles in Washington state. And from there to Seattle.
Then, on the way north, back to Vancouver, a couple of great diversions are (A) the Boeing assembly plant at Everett, and (B) the gorgeous little town of La Connor.
The delay at the border going north is generally much shorter than the delay going south.
For your consideration.
