Car rental @ FRA

I am thinking of renting a car to travel from FRA to MUC with a stop-over in Rothenburg.

Saw some posts on other forums about how terrible Avis was and how you should consider car rental off airports in general to avoid surcharges.

Would appreciate any recent experience on the good, the bad and the ugly of car rental @ FRA.

Interested in high-end cars like Mercs or BMW etc....

Regarding off-site rentals, please factor in the full sized suitcases & the carry ons (1 each per pax, x2).
