Is there a worthwhile status program for car hire in Oz ?
I currently rent everything through Avis ( preferred) have been quite happy with them but wonder if there is anything better?
I have the VA status match to Plat so could apply for the Hertz ( don't mind them) or Europe Car ( rather not as I've been stung for minor pre-existing damage  )
I would rather stay with Avis but I can't find any info regarding status levels here with them. I would qualify for Avisfirst but that appears to be for US/Can only?
Are there any other options that are good/useful ?

What happened to Donkey or his Dragon wife? Did you retire them? ;)

Avis doesn't have status levels in Australia, only Hertz and Europcar do. Hertz status isn't anything special until you get to PC level (30 rentals in a calendar year, or obtained through Virgin Plat). Europcar is similar, but with the added benefit of 30% off standard rates. My experience with Hertz has been significantly better customer service wise than Europcar. Both have things go wrong (after all, everyone makes mistakes), but Hertz seems to much easier to deal with to get things fixed and much quicker, usually with a free day certificate as a sweetener. Unless you like Audis alot, I would go with Hertz, or stick with Avis. Again, Avis are generally good customer service wise and I get the odd upgrade from them.

Note this experience is as a renter approx. 15 times a year.

I went with Hertz as they're a bonus partner with Citibank (4.25 points per $ with my CitiBusiness card). + your Velocity points of course (but not QFF).
