Called QF today to get them to book some AnySeat awards for me, and was told that these can't be booked over the phone - only online.

Can anyone confirm this? I thought it was quite odd. Should I be calling back?

Thanks

that's been my experience as well - new bookings for ASA have to be done online

This goes against what is advised by QF on the website:

You can book your Qantas & Jetstar Any Seat Award online.^ Select the Qantas & Jetstar Any Seat Award type. The booking processes for different Any Seat Awards and for Qantas & Partner Classic Awards may be different and so we recommend you consider and compare each of the Award Type booking options before you finalise your booking.

Enter your itinerary and follow the prompts. Online help is available throughout the booking process.
Or you can call Award flight reservations. An Award Assistance Fee applies for Award bookings made or completed worldwide via a consultant.

Cannot help but think its an excuse to get out of a hard job, perhaps I am being unkind!

What's the point of having a Reservations line that can't do Reservations? Must be a mistake or in the 'too hard' basket...

Imagine the number of times the phone agent would need to say 'sorry sir, you are 4.2million points short'

What if the online system is down. Makes no logic you can book online but can't book via agent.

Worst case, the agent should just go online on the customers behalf and book it online, and then charge an over the top assisted booking fee.

LOL!
I thought that the record was ~1.8 - 2 million, Australia-Mexico (Cancun)

I've seen 12 million:

That was my question (e.g. what if the system is down, or the departure/arrival cities are not displayed?) The agent seemed confused, and said that in this case I could try calling and they would see what they were allowed to do.

It seems to conflict with the blurb on the website where it says that the seats can be booked by phoning in.

At least if you book online you won't talk yourself out of buying an ASA & telling yourself you'd be better off with a Classic becuase it's (marginally) cheaper.

Were you definitely speaking to the Premium Desk or was it just general reservations?

That I don't recall - I just called the number on the back of my card. In any case, why should a regular Joe that gets through to the regular desk get the wrong info? Or, alternatively, if the agent was correct, why does QF not want to take ANySeat reservations over the phone, but they'll take Classic Award bookings? Surely it'd be roughly the same effort?

In any case, I called back a few hours later, and spoke to someone else, who didn't seem to have any issue with doing it. He did query why I wanted an AnySeat award, but I just said I wanted the FF points. He found better routing for me, which I could actually book online (the first itinerary was a bit of a PITA), and left me to do it myself.
