Cancelling upgraded QF domestic

Hello all. I've an upcoming PER-MEL-PER for which I bought economy and got a points upgrade. I'm going to need to cancel, does anyone know if it's possible to recover the points? Understand I'll suffer a fee on the $ value, is there a 'best way' to go about this?

You can cancel the upgrade but it’s a 5,000 point fee per upgrade that you need to cancel.

@4lex as @mannej posted there is a fee - also you must do it no later than 24 hours before scheduled departure otherwise all points are forfeit.
