Cancelling non-refundable flights....or not

Just wondering what other folks thoughts are on this.....
I have a couple of non-refundable flights booked with Air Asia. Seems now that I won't be able to use them. My fault I agree, but they were cheap, I grabbed them during a promo period, but obviously, one of the conditions is that they're non-refundable.
Anyway, the fact that I won't get anything back means that advising the airline that I won't be flying becomes a just courtesy thing. I'm a little peeved, considering a significant portion of the fare is tax, not even that is refunded. Does the airline keep the tax component? Is that legal?

Any thoughts anyone? Do I cancel so they can sell my seats to other people or do I just leave it?
(anyone wanna fly from Sydney to KL at the end of June? )

If you weren't able to get any sort of refund then I wouldn't inform them so they can sell the seat again.

I recently cancelled my tickets prior departure under the same situation. I was refunded the tax into my credit card about 10 days after the flight . You cannot name change with Air Asia.

Generally you will get the tax back. Eventually.

Hmmm....just checked with Air Asia.
Airport tax is refunded with a precessing fee, you're right.
In my case, airport tax component of the fares (1 adult, 1 child) was $156, of which I'll receive $106 back as a consequence of $30.00 and $20.00 processing fees for the adult, child respectively.
