Hi,

I have a family trip to Bali booked for later this year on pre-paid Jetstar flights. Given the recent events in Jakarta, I'm seriously reconsidering it.

What are my options as far as refunding/changing destinations ?

My bookings are pretty inflexible, basically you can pay a fee to switch to another date on the same flights and that's about it. I understand that that's what you get now with cheap flights and I might be SOL, but do I have any other options here ? If I took out travel insurance and monitored the situation and pulled the pin on the trip in a month or so would that make a difference ?

Fwiw - I paid for the flights with a gold CBA visa and I'm a Qantas gold FF.

Thanks for any advice.

If you were to buy insurance now, it would likely not be valid due to the events pre-dating the date of taking out insurance unless something major happened subsequent to you buying insurance. If you have non-refundable tickets, then you are restricted based on the terms of the tickets

Sadly not a lot of options.

You only hope is to keep track of the travel advisory for Bali and hope it gets changed to "do not travel" if that happens you may be entitled to a refund of your tickets. (although without insurance you may be out of luck)

The other thing of course is that the odd's of being caught up in a major terrorism event is fairly slim compared to a lot of the other dangers out there for the traveller, so if it was me I'd still go, keep situational awareness, but that's something you should do no matter where in the world you are, but not worry too much about it and just have a good time.
