Cancelling ANZ QFF

Just cancelled mine. Been a customer since 1999 they told me. Didn't really offer anything to keep me other than reduced annual fee. I asked for renewal to be refunded (charged last month ) which they agreed to.

This does not bode well for my future attempt to get a free upgrade to the FF Black from FF Plat. I thought the fact I've had the card since 2006 might have helped me there, but it seems not, given you had your card for much longer.

I called this afternoon - there was no budging on the $425 annual fee on the Black. They basically said pay that fee, cop the points cap or cancel.

I took the Black and am happy to pay $425pa for it. Given that I earn points in the 7 figures its a cheap price to pay. And I can get $100 back by selling the 2 lounge passes. The $6000 cap on the Platinum would not cover one weeks spending.

Certainly worth it if you're putting 7 figures through the Amex.

Unless ANZ come to the party, the NAB QF Premium looks the go for me - $250 annual fee inc. 40K bonus 1.5pt/$ Amex with a $100K/month spend cap is plenty for my purposes.

After having no love over the phone yesterday, I made an email complaint and they got back to me this morning (can't fault their response time).

Offered that if I switch to Black they'll recredit the $370 annual fee for the first year (not the $55 rewards fee) after it has been charged. The complaints guy tried to make it pretty clear that this was a once off and I shouldn't expect it after the first year. We'll see !

Called ANZ to cancel a Platinum Card whereby I had just been charged the annual fee $240+$55 yesterday. I was advised that the fee is non-refundable??

However the agent suggested I 'consolidate' this closing card with my basic FF card (that I signed up for recently for 50K bonus) to ensure I get the pro-rata fee refunded ableit returned into the basic CC. Will close the basic CC in a few months

I have just cancelled our FF Visa a couple of months after the fee was charged. With their new points earn, just wasn't worth it, given it was only a tertiary card.

I think its a bit rude that they can charge the fee, then degrade the points earn that the fee is for and then not give the $$ back!
