I haven’t seen this before so not sure if it’s new or a glitch in the latest web update.

I logged in to my bookings to cancel 2 x J award flights JNB to SYD both on the same PRN. When I click on cancel it says to ring Qantas. I have not had to do this in the past.

Qantas has a wait time of over an hour due to flight delays today so hung up and will try later.

Is this now the norm to cancel award flights?

It's likely to be because it is not ex Australia. The JNB office will have to process the cancellation so hopefully they are not as slow as the MNL office.

It's just that I have cancelled this exact same ticket previously without having to call qantas.

If I instead change the flight instead of cancel would the points and taxes be used for new award booking?

off-topic but what is a reasonable expectation for how long it will take a non-AU office to process the cancellation? I cancelled an ex-ZRH award last week and want to use those points towards a J award before it disappears...

You might need to call them and get them to chase the Euro office up.
