Has anyone had any luck with changing or cancelling a hotel booking made with a Points Club (Plus) voucher?

I was going to be flying out of Brisbane later in the year but Qantas moved all my international flights and now its easier for me to fly out of Sydney. Unfortunately I booked a hotel room in Brisbane using a $100 voucher from attaining Points Club Plus status and when I got to cancel the booking the $100 will not be refunded/credited back. So I lose it.

The fine print states: "Vouchers issued by Qantas are not exchangeable or redeemable for cash or other goods or services. Vouchers can only be used once and any unused portion of a voucher will be forfeited. The value of the voucher will not be refunded and no replacement voucher will be issued when canceling a booking. If you change or cancel a booking, any hotel fee amount will be deducted from the amount paid by you, up to a maximum of the amount originally paid by you. The hotel fee value cannot be paid using the voucher value."

Seems a tad unfair seeing as though Qantas screwed my flights in the first place.

Has anyone had any luck getting around this?

I have cancelled a few hotel bookings using Qantas hotel vouchers ranging from $30-50 and have always had to forfeit the voucher. The cash part was always refunded pretty quickly but all these cancellations were pre-Covid so Qantas might hang onto the cash for a bit longer now.

Thought I'd lost my voucher after having to cancel my booking, months later I completed a Points Club survey and noted I didn't think it was fair to lose the $50 if you had to cancel. A few weeks later received a new voucher with the following:
You previously cancelled a booking made using your Qantas Hotels voucher. We understand the uncertainty that comes with travel during these times. As a valued Points Club member and in recognition of your loyalty, we have reissued your A$50 voucher for you to use towards your next stay . I was surprised but definitely not complaining.

I called Qantas hotels last week and canceled two bookings with PC vouchers. I said it was unfair to lose the vouchers and they replaced them.

They did ask why I was canceling and seemed to be looking for any plausible reason to justify it and I told them the truth which was I'd be in Paris and not London on those dates.

They interpreted that as a schedule change (partially correct, my schedule not the airline's) and I got the replacement vouchers a day or 2 later by email.

I phoned up Qantas Hotels and after I explained I wanted to change the booking to another location + date they were able to amend the original booking so I didn't lose the voucher credit/value. They even owe me a $3 refund now due to the price difference above the voucher value. Success.

It's not logical to me you would lose the credit for cancelling or a change as Qantas aren't out of pocket apart from the admin.

This would seem to be best approach.

Interesting thread.
I booked and cancelled a hotel last year with QF and took the voucher option, without reading the fine print, which was foolish.
Thankfully I have used the voucher value and am reasonably confident I get to use the value.

More interesting, my daughter also booked and cancelled a hotel around the same time, and subsequently used the value bar about $30 for another booking. The amusing part is QF issued an updated voucher for over $10,000.

mmm.... she pondered this for a while and then, given she is honest, gave them a call to suggest they had made an error.
They re-issued for the $30, without even a thankyou, or some bonus FF points for honesty.
