Question on cancelling flights i was randomly thinking about.
If i have flights booked with QF with multiple Airlines eg QF, BA & AA in J on sale fares.
If i was to cancel i would need to pay $600 cancellation fee.

What's stopping me from upgrading to full J and then getting a refund? Then it would only be the $200-$400 change fee.
Im probably completely not understanding the fare rules and im sure airlines have things setup so that's not a viable option.

Fare rules are generally specifically written to prevent such!
  • Note: If this fare is combined with another fare the most restrictive cancellation conditions apply.

Anything that specifically comes to mind?
Once you upgrade to Full J you would be on those rules which say you can get refunded.

Assuming travel insurance doesnt cover you when you and your travel buddy dont want to travel together anymore. Not that im planning
I have no current plans to do this but was thinking if it was at all possible.

This thing specifically comes to mind:
"If the new fare is cancelled, the original fare cancellation conditions will apply."

Generally when you pay to upgrade a fare, you will be under the cancellation conditions of the original fare, hence the reference by Serfty.
