I'm sure this question has been asked here before so I apologise for asking it again but I can' t find the answer.

If I book a whY seat on a QF flight that has Y+ can I request an upgrade straight to J or am I only able to upgrade "one level" to Y+ (in which case I shall book a Y+ seat in the first place)?

As serfty says those are the three options.

We have requested an "either" upgrade from Y to Y+ or J on BNE-LAX. Fingers crossed, i'd be ahppy for either!

Yes it can be done.
I have just done MEL-SIN-MEL with my wife and son.
Upgraded to Y+ going out and J on return.
Great service and treatment from Qantas.
It has been a great year for opups and upgrades:)

Yes, I've been bounced up from Y to J, even though there where Y+ seats there.

Don't forget that if it's mainly the better seat your after in J, some flights with Y+ actually use the skybed cabin. So whilst you may only get Y+ service (which doesn't suck by any means) you may still find yourself in a J seat...

The advantage there is you don't need to spend as much or use as many points...

Thanks to everyone for your replies and suggestions. I'll book a whY fare from BKK to SYD and then plumb for an upgrade to either J or Y+. I actually wouldn't mind getting Y+ because it's not an overly long flight and I've never travelled in that cabin so it would be interesting to experience it.
