Hi Guys,

My Fiance and I are looking at booking our Honeymoon from Melbourne to Milan Return through our QFF Points which we have accumulated over the last decade or so.

The issue is that while initially we want to book for around 6 weeks, we may want to change the return date from Europe for whatever purpose so my question is, once you book a Return Flight through the QFF Classic Awards, can we change either the departure date from Europe or even from Melbourne to Europe later on and if so, what are the penalties (I've heard its 2500 points each for a change of date)?

The airfare looks like it'll be a codeshare flying QA to Singapore and then BA from Singapore to London and then London to Milan - Does that change anything or complicate anything with regards to changing dates later on?

Any help or advice would be very much appreciated folks.

Yes you can (as long as it is not a paper ticket and you have 2½K QFF point per PAX each time):
14.7 Qantas & Partner Classic Awards - changes to tickets

14.7.1 Except as otherwise stated in this clause 14.7, changes are not permitted to any Classic Award at any time. Any permitted changes are subject to Classic Award availability.

14.7.2 Prior to ticketing (other than for Flights operated by Jetstar Asia (3K) or Valuair (VF)), Classic Awards may be changed without incurring a fee; however, any changes will be subject to this clause 14.7 and to the advance purchase and validity provisions set out in clauses 14.2.2 and 14.6.1.

14.7.3 Subject to 14.7.7, the following changes are permitted to a Classic Award after ticketing (or booking in the case of Jetstar Asia (3K) or Valuair (VF)) and prior to commencement of travel, but will require ticket reissue (or new Itinerary confirmation in the case of Jetstar Asia (3K) or Valuair (VF)) and will incur a Change Fee from (see the Fee Schedule) per passenger:
(a) change to name (on Qantas operated and marketed tickets only, this means only tickets with a 'QF' airline code for flights operated by Qantas);
(b) change to class of travel;
(c) change to any Segment routing or airline;
(d) request to cancel ticket and re-credit Points. Note: only Points that would not have expired will be re-credited.

14.7.4 Subject to 14.7.5, changes to flight number or date of travel, without changing:
(a) name;
(b) class of travel; or
(c) Segment routing or airline,
are permitted to a Classic Award after ticketing (or booking in the case of Jetstar Asia (3K) or Valuair (VF)) and prior to or after commencement of travel, but will require ticket revalidation (or new Itinerary confirmation in the case of Jetstar Asia (3K) or Valuair (VF)) and will incur a Change Fee (see the Fee Schedule) per passenger.

14.7.5 Changes are not permitted (after travel has commenced) to any Classic Award for which a paper ticket has been issued.

14.7.6 Any change made to a Classic Award which requires ticket revalidation or ticket reissue (or new Itinerary confirmation), will incur a Change Fee (see the Fee Schedule) per passenger.

14.7.7
No changes requiring ticket reissue will be allowed to any Classic Award within 24 hours before departure from the point of origin of the first Flight Segment on the Itinerary.

14.7.8
Changes to Classic Awards that incur Point fees (see the Fee Schedule) can be made only by the Member who originally redeemed Points for the Classic Award and only if that Member has sufficient Points to cover the applicable fees.

Thanks Serfty, yep that's what I thought.

I'm just gonna book on the website over the weekend so it should be an e-ticket and not a paper ticket right?

TIA

Way back in 2001 (things may have changed since) when QF still flew into Paris, I changed my J CDG-SIN award flight by a day. It was a paper ticket, so I had to go into the Qantas Office in Paris to get them to amend it.

So even if it is a paper ticket, you may still be able to change it as long as you can get to the local Qantas office.

A word of warning - whilst you can in theory change award flights, whether there are seats when you go to change is another matter.

I recommend against using award flights if your dates may change as you could find that at the time of trying to make the change the QF reservation agent says "sorry sir, there are no seats".

Probably better to buy flexible tickets and use your points for upgrades!
