Hi,

I am trying to make a booking with AA miles on a CX flight. It is the flight from MEL to HKG that is giving me problems.

I am after 2 business seats - HBA to MEL on 28 July I can put up with economy fine. It is then the leg from MEL to HKG.

I have used my BA.com exec account to check flights and there is a flight CX0178 departing at 11:40pmthat BA shows as having 5 business seats available. I need the night flight as want to catch the 08:55 am flight on 29 July from HKG to HKT and that has business fine.

However when I ring AA to make the booking they say they can only see 1 business seat on the CX flight from MEL to HKG. I have rung twice to make sure it wasn't operator error and got the same results.

I can't use KVS myself as it just doesn't work with my speech software (I am blind) so wondering if someone with KVS access can check the availability on that CX flight for me from MEL to HKG.

I am actually flexible with my needs and happy to fly from 25 July to 30 July from HBA to HKT via HKG on CX.

BA.com is a further pain as it doesn't recognise that Qantas flies from HBA to MEL anymore and I have to check that leg on Qantas but short flights economy are fine so that leg isn't a problem. Just don't want a long lay over in HKG before a HKT flight so this worked perfectly.

Thanks for any help,

Dale.

Hi - I just checked via KVS. CX178 shows only 1 J seat available on award. Now, CX134 (0740) on the other hand shows availability for multiple J pax.

I hope this helps.

Cheers,
Sigh

Thanks for the help. Confirms what AA is seeing sadly.

I also just remembered and kicked myself that I have an Asia Miles account and can use that to check CX flights for award seats.

Just a pain that only the one earlier in day is available as then have an overnight layover before can fly to HKT.

Dale, Asia Miles will show you the amount of award seats that Cathay Pacific makes available to its own frequent fliers, not to other airlines so it will be misleading for you.

The best (and free) way to check their availability is on the Japan Airlines Mileage Bank website, you can join for free. It is very clunky and needs getting used to but this is the only way to see correct availability of CX seats that are available to airline partners without going to KVS or Award Nexus

Just also did the search inside my QFF account and that late night flight is also showing availability if I were to use my QFF points. Bloody frustrating that both BA and QFF can see the seats but they aren't available to AA it seems.

I was saving my QFF points for some OneWorld 280K redemption so don't really want to use them.

Try using JL's FF program for accurate CX availability.

You will probably find that if you try and book the flight with your QF points, that the booking will fail.

No, the seats were indeed real as spoke with CX and apparently all OW partners should see the same inventory.

The seats are now showing to AA as well as QF and BA. However in the meantime the flights from HKG to HKT have been taken so have missed out.

There are hundreds of reports on FT about phantom availability for CX. The consensus is that only JL shows accurate availability.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.
