Apologies if this has been answered in a previous thread but I want to travel from NYC to LAX in late July 2017 (unsure on the class of cabin at this stage). How, if possible, can I book the flight using Qantas Points?

This can definitely be done. Log into your Qantas account and search for flights using points as the payment option.

I've used points to book internal US flights many times before.

I would urge you to act immediately as flight availability can be difficult so close to the time you want to make the booking.

Certainly book ASAP. There are flights from JFK, EWR and LGA in J and F but already no availability in Y.
