Hi,

I have a frequent flyer ticket from HBA to LAX next May but can't get a frequent flyer seat from Lax to LAS and will have to buy a ticket.

Can you link a paid AA ticket to the FF Qantas booking such that they have to take responsibility if the Qantas flight is delayed or something goes wrong? If so do I have to book the paid ticket through Qantas?

Thanks,

Dale.

As posted by KPC, AA will protect you in any case.

I suggest after booking your AA flight, you call Qantas armed with the details and request that an "Information" or "Ghost" segment be placed into your Booking showing the AA flight.

You may like to try this on the reverse by calling AA as well.

Thanks - I just love you guys and this forum.

I'm really loving it today as I will post separately shortly.

Also, the tix will be effectively linked after you check-in as your luggage will be through-checked to LAS.

I would not recommend adding ghost segments to a QF PNR, as it has a habit of breaking OLCI. The best way is to present the AA segment to QF check in at the airport and let them add it.

Once your AA flight LAX/LAS is added in at HBA, your bags will be tagged HBA/xMEL/LAX/LAS & you should receive all boarding passes including the AA one. In the event of a disrupt situation eg flight delay you would have the same rights as anyone who had all the flights in the same pnr.

Your bags will still come off the carousel in LAX where you clear customs then you re-deposit the bag at the bag drop within TBIT before making your way to T4.

The AA flight can be booked through their website but make sure you use the US site as your computer here will usually default to the AU site & fares are more expensive eg the flight I booked recently was USD61.00 on the US site vs AUD132.00 on the AU site.

I would not recommend adding ghost segments to a QF PNR, as it has a habit of breaking OLCI. The best way is to present the AA segment to QF check in at the airport and let them add it.

Whilst ghost segments can be useful in the QF pnr in the case of disrupts these segments don't generate to your checkin profile in Altea so you'd have to give the CSA details at checkin anyway. Take a copy of the AA print out showing flight, date, booking class eg Q, N class etc.

does anyone know if there is a similar written guideline regarding QF to QF/EK? A friend from overseas has a return flight from SYD, but will come in from BNE the same day and is terrible worried what is gonna happen if the domestic QF flight is significant delayed.
