Is there any place to buy the 3 'Feel at Home' SIM card at Heathrow airside at T3? I shall be travelling with hand luggage only, therefore only in transit between terminals, and not going through the Arrivals hall.

None I can think of quickly. Usually the places to buy at Heathrow are arrivals hall (machines located in baggage hall and sometimes outside in terminal) and potentially a shop outside.

How long until your trip? There might be other options.

Thanks for the instant response, Mal. It's only just struck me that it could be a problem. I leave next Friday. If all goes to plan, I have would have enough time between SQ early am arrival at T2 and departure for France on BA from T3 (separate PNRs), to go through arrivals as if I had checked luggage to collect, get the SIM landside, go to T3 and through security all over again. It's a bore, but do-able. Which terminal is my best bet for finding a shop rather than just a machine? The last time I used a mobile phone while away, I bought it from a shop in a town in the UK, and was very glad of their help in setting it up to connect to the network, as it didn't happen as automatically as it should have. As a mobile novice, I could well need similar help again.

If you are departing Australia Simcorner sell the three sim. It is AUS$50.

Thanks, TonyH. That's a great idea. In fact their website is currently showing $45 for the Three SIM, and they're now at Melbourne Airport so I can buy and get it set up and ask all my dumb questions there before I catch my outward flight. Yes, I'm sure even at that cost, I'm very likely paying over the odds, compared with purchase at LHR, but it's worth it to me to save me the hassle of exiting and then re-entering airside at LHR.

ETA Oh bother: just read this

Yes, I could order by post; seems they have no shop in Melbourne CBD

That is my view too. It might be worth giving them a call to make sure they are open when you fly. There have been a couple of times this year when the area they operate from was either closed or had a "back soon" sign up.

Setting up could not be more simple - just pop it in your phone and turn it on when you reach the UK. It registers with three automatically and is good to go. I think you need to wait to get to the UK before trying to set it up though.

I had a 3 SIM in the UK last year and had absolutely no hassles with it at all - pop it in and away you go

I have ordered from simcorner before and received the sim within three days.

Good to know. Ordered at 2.30 this afternoon and paid extra for express postage. My hint that a postage discount would be appropriate for Melbourne customers, given the (admittedly forced) closure of the Melbourne Airport kiosk, went unheeded.

$45 is slightly higher than the local price, but not considerably (local price is around £20, but sometimes discounts can be had). Sorry I didn't get back to this thread until now ! Hope you've sorted out your card.

Saw the following machine near immigration in T5 (close to transfers) so still airside but hard to get to.

Prices are very high. Eg, £30 for a 3 payg package. I'd buy and ship one to Aus express post for much less!
