Hey folks,

I’m flying to Glasgow in October (Christchurch-Melbourne-Perth-London-Glasgow), I thought I might stick in a wishful cash bid offer for an upgrade from economy to business (fallback to PE) for the Perth-London flight and maybe the return London-Singapore and or Singapore-Sydney.

I haven’t used the QF upgrade bid system before. My QF booked flights operated by QF are all eligible for bid upgrade offers. I don’t have enough points to use as part of a cash & points offer (I typically fly AirNZ), so I hoped to just make a cash offer.

The QF upgrade site won’t let me set the points component to 0 (zero). Anything less than the 5000 point minimum, including 0 points causes the “update” button to grey out so it can’t be selected. See attached image (not the intended offer amount). It says 0 points is allowed but won’t play ball!

Any suggestions??? Am I missing something?

I’m a lowly Bronze QFF member, if that’s of any relevance (other than not helping my chances of an upgrade much!)

Any suggestions appreciated! I’ve tried accessing the upgrade site both from the QF App and directly from Chrome on my cellphone. Same result either way.

At least you are flying after the peak period, but your upgrade chances using the method you wish to use are very low as a Bronze member.

Yes I know and have set my expectations as such, if I can workout the upgrade bid system for cash only offers!

The upgrade using points only take priority over the upgrades where you bid a mixture of points and cash, and usually Bronze miss out even for the points only upgrades on popular routes like London.

A lot of people only like to use their points for flying and during the pandemic accumulated points they couldn't use for what they wanted, so there are lots looking for upgrades at the moment.

You could try a different browser, a private/incognito browser, a different device etc. You could even call QF, but as a Bronze member you would have a long wait on the phone.

Yeah, I won’t be holding my breath… I was hoping to do a cash only bid, not point or cash + points.

Where does cash only fit into the hierarchy of priority for upgrades?

From some anecdotal evidence I think cash only bids are only allowed in itineraries originating Australia.
