My daughter is in Cambodia and she was sending daily emails up to last week now she's gone off the air. Is Wi-Fi etc very difficult in Cambodia or should I start being worried and try to track her down?

Check when she was last active on Facebook.

Was there a specific arrangement in place that she would send daily emails? If not, don't panic just yet - I've just come off a year on the road myself and can assure you there are lots of benign reasons someone will drop out of comms for short periods at a time.

Sometimes it isn't a good idea to set up regular comms when travelling third world. Even a simple three day power blackout can mean you can't charge devices/access the net. Or the power is only on for a few times each day (Nepal is a classic). Then there is remote travel.

Thanks, there was no agreed comms, it's just that they suddenly stopped. It's always worse in the middle of the night when one is worrying. I don't do FB. I did remember that there's someone that I can contact over there who knows of their movements who hopefully put my mind at rest.

When I mentioned their plans to a US friend who's a Vietnam Vet, he said that going to a holiday place where's there's land mines is not his idea of a holiday! I did not take that seriously.

My son loves Cambodia. My personal fitness trainer moved there 12 months ago and loves it.
I don't do facebook much either, just when I travel and I post pics to let my family know I am still on the planet.
You can also check the last time when your friends were online, which can be a very unobtrusive way of checking on them.
If there is a situation, like the recent Paris events, there is an "I am ok" button (or something like that) that you can quickly click to put everyone's mind at ease.

I dislike Facebook but when travelling it is fantastic.

OK, have heard from a 3rd party that they are off to PNH today, so I just said to tell them that 'your mother says hello'. :p
