Funny about the Mr thing , my wife the good Lady obstetrician only refers to me as Mr when she is not happy with me, I will always refer to my colleges in front of patients or operating theater as Dr or Mr or Prof I just wonder if the titles offer you better service I think not but I will be educated by you allI have however been tempted at the Peninsula Hong Kong when booking to put HRH or Lord, if you ever take a look at the drop down menu on the booking site the list of titles are amazing.

I am interested, what is your specialty?

When I fly it's always guaranteed,and if my wife is with me then it's even a better bet however, I do joke with her that she would not be called upon to do an emergence pap smear, on a flight. That's when she gives me the liter of blood look and calls me Mr

The on board page is typically for "a medical doctor" and note: they arent supposed to ask you to attend, you must "volunteer". Has implications for liability / good samaritan act.

Docjames My reading of the medical indemnity insurance and the good Samaritan issues are covered,but again I will be educated on this, and do not feel like calling MIPS to find out lol as you would know it's almost imposable to not render assistance when you see the need.

FWIW, I would say more than 90% flights in long haul J ( and F if I'm lucky) I will be asked by the CSM what's my specialty during the meet and greet. Often wondered whether they keep this info or whether it's idle banter.

I have a mate who is a doctor of economics and it was an overnight flight back to Aust and got woken up by a FA's asking if he could help with a pax who was having severe breathing problems.He was no help and ever since that day has not used his title at all.No idea what happened but when they landed ambulance was waiting but in no hurry to help the person.

some might say a person with a phd in economics is not much help to anyone even if you are well.

Agreed on this - it's essentially impossible not to "volunteer". Barring major incapacity for whatever reason.

FWIW I switched to using "Doctor" on QF due to issues with my FF points not crediting as work bookings book as DR when the FF profile was MR and it never credited properly requiring me to call to fix all the time. Now everything is DR and there's less crediting issues. The op-up gods dont really seemed to have noticed the change though.

I seem to have a decent strike rate of that overhead page happening on my flights. Or most recently, a personal "announcement" that they were sorry the service was a bit haphzard in J, but they had a sick pax in Y , followed by the loooong pause waiting for my "would you like some help" response. As opposed to just outright asking.

So far none have required diversion thankfully. Still, it'll happen eventually I guess if you fly enough.

It amazes me that FAs these days could make the assumption that any PAX with 'Dr' on the manifest is a medico. Surely the chances are that PhDs outnumber medicos on flights - or is this the reason for long waiting lists for medical attention? :mrgreen:

Maybe I can schedule my next specialist appointment in the J cabin (or F if the upgrade comes through ) of QF11 SYD-LAX on 20 August?

Please do if you are going to be on QF11 on 20 Aug :mrgreen:. Not often a consult happens over a glas or several of Comtes (hopefully). BTW, what's your specialty? Urology is, regrettably, my current focus .

General Surgeon retired with an interest in all thing laproscopic and yes I know you urologist where using scopes before I was born lol and I think working would be a lot more fun if we did drink at the consults a nice glass of Krug Would work unfortunately not on QF 11 but I was thinking if we got a lawyer and some Doctors on a f trip some place we could call it a medico legal conference and claim it may even get cme Points

I'm not a medico, Wayne - just one of those mistaken for one at times. Urology is the focus from a 'consumer' viewpoint only - as I say, regrettably . You'll know what 'watchful waiting' means.

Sorry john must be late, there are a lot of good urologists out there so you should be in good hands..... Andy right now I'm working on a trip to Italia with a group of friends and we are trying to make it a conference,so we can claim it ,I will let you know how it works out.
