Planning on taking mother to SIN and KIX in a few weeks for a "last trip" before her mobility decreases to the point where travel isn't an option. I haven't been on SQ A350 or 787-10 aircraft (or SQ post-COVID) - do the J cabins run warmer than one would generally expect? We're planning her wardrobe for the flights. Thanks, t.

Best advice to give would be to ‘layer’. I don’t like warm cabins, I have asked on occasion for the crew to lower the temperature, which they have been happy to comply with. But these things are subjective… your mother’s idea of ‘too warm’ will be different to mine!

The cabins aren’t excessively hot by any means, but for me anything much over 21 feels too hot to sleep.

Cabin temperatures are controlled across zones. There are temperature sensors spread around, but they aren’t near all of the seats by any means. The actual control, by mixing very hot, and very cold, air from different sources, doesn’t allow control over small areas either.

The upshot is that the selected temperature (which will be around 21º) is an average for any given zone. There will be hotter, and colder, areas. It isn’t possible to do anything much about them without adversely affecting the rest of the zone. One constant is that the coldest place in any cabin will be near any access doors.
