Any reviews from real AFFers? Other reviews online are a bit mixed. Why on earth is this thing around $1000?

Is it actually of quality and made to be durable for longevity as the price suggests? They don't seem to make cabin baggage like they used to, as the old saying goes...

The 40L cabin version of this bag is already 4.7kg. Seems heavy by comparison to other bags of the same size.

My current Samsonite I've had for God knows how many trips up, down and all around. It was made of a polyester shell, I suspect, around some hard plastic casing; the fabric has ribber a bit in two places, along the bottom edge where it bumps along the way down the baggage handling conveyor belts, but a some rather elusive-looking silver duct tape fixed that and doubled its life time.
