I realize this is not a frequent flyer question as such, but just wondered where would be the best place in Sydney to buy some US Dollars.

With the exchange rate I thought it might be a good idea.

I know banks sell them but wondered if anyone knew of somewhere with minimal commision, fees etc.

Will probably buy travellers cheques as well.

Travelling to the US in July.

Thanks.

I have bought USD from the currency exchange shops that are scattered around Central Station / George St...they all mostly advertise commission free rates, and I just compare a few of tham to see who would give me the closest rate to the official exchange rate of the day. I know Westpac used to charge a flat $8 fee (have to check what they charge now) plus the official rate of the day, so if you were buying a large amount of USD, the $8 fee represents a very small % of your total amount....now I just use my Wizard Mastercard to withdraw USD when i arrive in the US:mrgreen:...but I guess if I was going to non US countries where USD is the king or want USD now when the exchange rate is in the AUD favour, I would have to do the above....
