Just been informed by CX Jakarta that they can only take Visa/MC over the phone. If I want to pay with my AMEX, has to be in person so they can swipe it.

My Visa's travel insurance is not as good as the QF Amex Ultimate Card travel insurance.

Has anyone purchased travel insurance through Flight Centre or Medibank Private?

Medibank is $360.90 for 2 people for 30 days in USA (does not cover Asia).

Is it worth buying? Or just rely on the Credit Card Insurance?

I havent bought insurance through Flight Centre, but i've sold alot of the product they sell...let me know if you need any advice.

Would you buy from a travel agency or a health insurance company?

Or just rely on the CC insurance?

I cant comment on the CC insurance as I dont know much about it and the quality of it, I think you'll find the insurance both the agents and health funds sell is pretty good.

Ive always found Covermore easy to deal with, and quick on claims which is important.

If you're unsure of the CC insurance, id says it'd be money well spent to have ease of mind

I would not buy Insurance from a TA - you are paying a commission to them. Nothing wrong with that, but most people like to save money.

Travel Insurance - Save for your Holiday with Travel Insurance Direct will cover you for a 30 day Worldwide trip for $129.

I use an annual policy through them for $340.

Other than that, you could join AFF and get discounted insurance via Travel Insurance - Columbus Direct (Australia) on an Annual policy for $200 nett.

They also will cover you worldwide for a month @ $139.

Everyone earns a commission from selling insurance Serfty, not just agents.

Not saying theres anything wrong with that particular policy, because im not familiar with it, but I find basing a decision on price a fairly 2 dimensional way of judging a product, and when it comes to insurance, level of cover and more importantly willingness to pay out claims should they arise is just as important, and something those who circumvent agents/health funds etc in place of an internet site often overlook.

Fully agree, that's why I have been using TID rather than the cheaper Columbus, the TID annual policy suits my needs better.;)

I'm one of those who reads and and comprehends the PDS's for these insurance products. FWIW, TID is underwritten by Allianz.

You must make up the .000001% of people who actually do read it :mrgreen:

I find that travel insurance is like politics and religion.

Once someone has decided on a particular company, no amount of logic, statistics or just plain old facts will make them change.

Just the way it is, I guess (me excepted).

I have been happy with TID and recently renewed the annual policy. I find their customer service is good and they appear to have adequate telephone support coverage throughout the world. I also paid the extra $25 to reduce the excess to NIL.
